Focusing on Adults 50+ in Mesa, Delta, Montrose and Garfield Counties

About Us

One out of every four Western Colorado residents are 50 years or older. They are living longer, earning more and enjoying a far more active lifestyle than ever before. This rapidly growing group controls over 70 percent of our area’s wealth.

The BEACON Senior Newspaper is Western Colorado’s most popular monthly publication for people 50+ and offers a targeted medium at affordable rates that breaks through the clutter and confusion of other media. The BEACON has consistently been a top award winner at the annual journalism competition of the North American Mature Publishers Association (NAMPA).

Originally known as the Best Year’s BEACON, Susan Capps started the newspaper in 1986. Now known as the BEACON Senior Newspaper, its current publisher, Kevin VanGundy, acquired the publication in 2008, resulting in explosive growth throughout Mesa, Delta, Montrose and Garfield counties.

The BEACON’s Senior RESOURCE Directory is in its twelfth year as our most requested publication. It is often referred to as the “yellow pages” for Western Slope seniors, and can be found at numerous locations on the Western Slope, or by calling our office.

Every April, the BEACON thanks its loyal readers by hosting BeaconFest, the area’s largest senior party of the year. BeaconFest features an exciting line up of the area’s best entertainers, free food, lively seminars, thousands of dollars worth of door prizes and informational booths from area businesses.
