Upon crossing the threshold of Bookcliff Gardens, one enters an oasis of living beauty and industry. Smiling staff members assist customers with wagons loaded up with garden treasures. The stress of the outside world seems to melt away. It’s obvious why the seven-acre property is considered a local gem.

“I’d have to say my favorite part is being surrounded by such beauty every day,” said owner Stephanie Griggs, 61.

She and her husband Rick are the hands-on folks at the helm of this 50-year-old Grand Junction business. They purchased Bookcliff Gardens in 2019, eager to continue its longstanding reputation for quality products and exceptional customer service. They credit their instant success to the garden center’s amazing staff, in-house experts and loyal customers—some of which come from as far away as Aspen.

“People love to be surrounded by natural beauty. We believe we have the happiest customers in town!” said Stephanie.

From the brand-new beginner unsure of where to start to the seasoned master gardener, every customer is sure to find something special for their outdoor space.

The garden center carries a wide variety of both indoor and outdoor plants, shrubs, bedding plants, herbs and landscaping elements. Customers can purchase blooming flowers awaiting planting or take home already assembled hanging baskets and pots. Or Bookcliff Gardens offers custom baskets or designer planters for private homes and businesses.

Looking for a gift? The garden center carries both elegant and farmhouse-style planting containers, large and small decorative outdoor art, hummingbird feeders, windchimes and even local honey. Plus, find any gardening tools and lawn supplies one could need, such as compost, mulch, fertilizer and pest and weed control solutions.

Bookcliff Gardens also offers services such as professional landscaping and construction, using plants, shrubs and trees all grown on site. Likewise, they offer maintenance, house calls for plant and tree problems, educational tours of their facility, and professional advice.

While the Griggs are extremely busy with every aspect of running Bookcliff Gardens, they rely heavily on the experienced and expert staff, most of whom stayed on from the previous owners.

“It’s about the people—helping them and seeing them smile. What makes us the proudest is carrying on the tradition of a company that has been in business over 50 years,” Stephanie said. “We have the most talented employees and greatest loyal customers that continue to support this beautiful business.”

Bookcliff Gardens, 755 26 Road in Grand Junction, is open year-round, seven days a week. Best of all, on Wednesdays seniors get 10 percent off any purchase! Retail items and plant inventory change constantly with each season, so visit often—you never know what you might find.
